Respecting The Art of Creating

We all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. The freedoms that were fought hard over and the many lifetimes of individuals that led us to be where we stand today. My parents migrated and worked at jobs that they did not enjoy to provide a life of security and freedom for their children. They let go of their dreams in order to create a life and an opportunity for their children to dream.
I always knew I wanted to be an artist. As I grew up the world around me informed me that creating art was more of a hobby for most and as a career a luxury for very few. Luckily for me, my family were not of the same thinking. They allowed the space for art to become whatever I desired it to be for me.
The idea that any act of creation as a career path is seen as a luxury deems it an inaccessible path. And what gets omitted within that concept is that we are all given the gifts of creation to use and they are there to be cultivated and acted upon. Not restricted to the chambers of hobbies or fantasy career paths.
And there is also another crucial element that is overlooked; that our histories and ancestors evolved and at times gave up on their dreams and desires so that we could live out ours. In that context, acts of creation should not be deemed as luxuries or hobbies, but be given the respect that they deserve given the histories that took place in order for there to even be a circumstance where creating for a career and as a choice for life be treated more than just a hobby or an act of luxury
